A Christmas Carol

Léhar Theatre, Bad Ischl: What happens when a greedy old man gets followed by three Christmas spirits? In “A Christmas Carol”, by Charles Dickens, the answer is a lot of fun.

In “Christmas Carol” the two main characters are Ebenezer Scrooge and Jacob Marley who have a company together and are good friends. On Christmas day Jacob Marley dies and Ebenezer Scrooge who is very grumpy, and he avoids every contact with other people, gets visited by three spirits six years after Marley´s death. Nobody likes Scrooge because he acts in a selfish and greedy way and he doesn´t give donations to the poor. So he gets a visit by a ghost and three spirits who try to change his character:

·       Marley´s ghost

·       The ghost of Christmas present

·       The ghost of Christmas past

·       The ghost of Christmas yet to come

These spirits show him that Christmas is a happy season.

The American Drama Group directed by Grantly Marshal did a great job with their performance and the wonderful music and singing were extraordinary. Also, the wonderful costumes, showing the different characters, helped them to achieve this.

This is an entertaining and thought-provoking play that would appeal to most teenagers and adults. If you get a chance to see it, don´t miss it.
